I did my kitchen remodel the right way

Kitchen Remodeling

I’m not a big spender. I don’t feel I need to buy the most expensive, top-of-the-line anything. My cars have always been used—excuse me, “previously owned”—and my home is humble. Cheap isn’t my game, but I am frugal. Don’t get me wrong, though; if I need to spend on something, I will. But the need has to be there.

Last year, I needed a full-scale kitchen remodel. I’d been putting it off for a while and battling my cheap—no, my frugal— tendency. When I pulled my utensil drawer open and the whole thing came flying out with broken wood pieces and forks everywhere, I knew it was time. The kitchen was falling apart and no amount of resurfacing and repainting was going to fix it.

I may shop at the dollar store and coupon-cut for the best deals, but when it comes to my kitchen, I don’t cut corners.

How I found the right full-service remodeling company I knew (and had known) that I needed a floor-to-ceiling overhaul. The cabinets were coming apart. The oven looked like it was straight out of the 70s, and the fridge was too small—even for just me. I did what anyone would do who needed to find a good design and installation company would do: I Googled. Right away, Kitchen Cabinets & Beyond in Anaheim popped up. Perfect. I live in Anaheim Hills, CA. They’ve been around for a long time, and their owner has an affinity for design. Just what I needed.

Unique options Since I was embarking on an investment in my home, I wanted to do something to make my kitchen mine. I was pleased to find out that the pros at KCB like to help homeowners do exactly that: customize each kitchen to make it unique and functional for each individual client. In truth, I didn’t really know what my style was. My KCB expert helped pull that out of me. Walking through their showroom, I felt free to say what I didn’t like. In fact, he encouraged me to do that again and again and eventually, we figured out what style I lean toward: mid-century modern. Beyond the flooring and reconfiguration to make the layout work, here are a few unique touches I chose:

  • A small kitchen breakfast nook—what was once a small corner in the room is now a built-in bench with a small kitchen table.

  • Glass cabinets—white and light aqua (my favorite color!)

  • Retro-style refrigerator

I’m so glad I didn’t cut corners with my kitchen remodel in Anaheim Hills, CA. But, I’m happy to report that I was able to stay on a tight budget while I worked with my Kitchen Cabinets & Beyond pros! That made this frugal gal very happy. If you’re like me and you like to spend your money wisely, give them a call—they’re wonderful!
